Germination guide
Caesalpinia pulcherrima pink seeds will usually germinate in 7 to 90 days, even under good conditions germination may be erratic. Normally germinates in the dark. Sow seeds about 4mm deep in a free draining, but water retentive seed sowing mix at about 25°C.
Scarification: Seeds have a hard seed coat that is impermeable to water, and which prevents the seed from imbibing. Large seeds can be chipped with a chizel, knife or rasp. Smaller seeds may be scraped on sandpaper, clipped with nail clippers or pricked with a needle. Try to do this on the side away from the hilum. After scarification seeds are usually soaked in warm water, which should be changed daily. Most seeds swell up when they are soaked, those that do should be sown immediately.
Germination may be improved by soaking the scarified seeds in saltpetre solution (1 teaspoon to a litre of water)
